چکیده

Stable isotope analysis is a powerful tool for assessing plant carbon and water relations and their impact on biogeochemical processes at different scales. Our processbased understanding of stable isotope signals, as well as technological developments, has progressed significantly, opening new frontiers in ecological and interdisciplinary research. This has promoted the broad utilisation of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen isotope applications to gain insight into plant carbon and water cycling and their interaction with the atmosphere and pedosphere. Here, we highlight specific areas of recent progress and new research challenges in plant carbon and water relations, using selected examples covering scales from the leaf to the regional scale. Further, we discuss strengths and limitations of recent technological Published by Copernicus Publications on behalf of the European Geosciences Union. 3084 C. Werner et al.: Progress and challenges in using stable isotopes developments and approaches and highlight new opportunities arising from unprecedented temporal and spatial resolution of stable isotope measurements.

The present work is associated with dietary reconstruction using δ13C and δ15N analysis of humans from the site of Sidon, a Middle Bronze Age (2000BC-1550BC) settlement in Lebanon. The main objective of this research is to focus on collagen extraction of 23 individual bones, discovered in a cemetery, College site (season 2001-2002) in ancient Sidon. Collagen could only be extracted from the 8 a...

Tracing Water Sources of Terrestrial Animal Populations with Stable Isotopes: Laboratory Tests with Crickets and Spiders

Fluxes of carbon, nitrogen, and water between ecosystem components and organisms have great impacts across levels of biological organization. Although much progress has been made in tracing carbon and nitrogen, difficulty remains in tracing water sources from the ecosystem to animals and among animals (the "water web"). Naturally occurring, non-radioactive isotopes of hydrogen and oxygen in wat...

Carbon and Oxygen Isotopic Systematics in Calcite and Dolomite from the Sangan Iron Skarn Deposit, Northeastern Iran

A total of 40 samples from carbonates and 8 samples from silicate rocks were analyzed from the Sangan iron skarn deposit to examine behavior of the oxygen and carbon isotopes. The higher values of ?18O are from metamorphic calcite and dolomite and lower ones are from granitic rocks. Although the ?18O and ?13C values of calcite and dolomite in marble yield the highest values in the Sangan deposi...

Climatic and Environmental Reconstruction Based on Stable Isotopes of Parishan Lake (Iran)

The isotopic documents of lake deposition are suitable potential means for studyingthe intercontinental, environmental and climatic conditions. In order to study theenvironmental and climatic conditions of Parishan area in Fars province in Holocene, a Corewas taken with the length of 2m from the Parishan lake sediment. From this core, kernel timeseries was provided from documents of carbon and ...
